Paintings
Color is a great connector that unites us through feelings. It always guides my paint and material choices. My palette is loud, proud and bright. Barbie pink, glowing lime green, neon carrot orange. These colors hold familiarity and comfort to me. They were colors I grew up with- shag carpets in our home and pulsating wallpapers. My painted wood relief hybrids are geometric and gestural, flat and dimensional, opposites assembled and living in the same space. Laying down paint and adhering other materials build up surfaces. Patterns in my work, are taken from various systems which generate form. It’s been said that painting is a sensitive recording device. My work references natural forms, living things, and other phenomena. How far can I go with a painted shape that evokes something but is nothing concrete?
